The App Store is the only route
tvOS is a closed platform. Anything installable is listed in the App Store on the device itself, and an app being available on iPhone does not mean a tvOS version exists. Search on the Apple TV, not on your phone.
Some tvOS players are paid, one-off purchases. That purchase is Apple’s transaction with the developer and has nothing to do with your streaming subscription.
Entering the account
If your details were issued as a server, username and password, and the tvOS player only offers a playlist field, ask support for the playlist form of the same account rather than improvising a URL.
- Open the player and choose the login type matching your details — server login or playlist URL.
- Use the iPhone keyboard prompt if tvOS offers it. Typing a long URL on the on-screen grid is where mistakes happen.
- Confirm the channel list has downloaded before judging whether anything works.
- Play one channel for five minutes, then check the guide beside it.
Apple TV, iPhone and iPad are not one setup
AirPlaying from an iPhone to an Apple TV works, but it runs the stream twice over your network and adds delay. For regular viewing, install the player on the Apple TV itself.
| Device | Install route | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV 4K | tvOS App Store | Best remote experience; check player availability first. |
| iPhone / iPad | iOS App Store | A different app catalogue; AirPlay to the TV adds latency. |
| Mac | Mac App Store or desktop player | Useful for a first test before touching the TV. |
Questions people ask
Can I sideload IPTV Smarters on Apple TV?
No. tvOS does not permit sideloading. Whatever you install comes from the tvOS App Store, and the tvOS catalogue is separate from the iPhone catalogue.
Does an Apple TV and an iPhone streaming at once use two connections?
Yes. Two devices playing at the same moment use two of your plan’s simultaneous connections, even in the same house.
Why does my tvOS player not accept my login?
Usually a format mismatch: you have a server-and-password login and the app wants a playlist URL, or vice versa. Ask support for your account in the other format rather than editing the URL yourself.
