webOS is not Android
The same constraint as Samsung applies, for the same reason: a different operating system with a curated store. APK files are irrelevant on webOS. What varies is which players your TV’s model year lists in the LG Content Store.
Check the store before buying a subscription on the assumption that a particular player will be available on your set.
Installing and activating
- Open the LG Content Store from the home bar and search for the player you were directed to.
- Install and launch it. Note the MAC address the first screen displays.
- On a phone or computer, open the developer’s activation page and register that MAC address with your playlist URL.
- Pay the developer’s activation fee if that player charges one.
- Return to the TV, reload the app, and let the channel list finish downloading.
When to stop fighting webOS
If your model year does not list a suitable player, or the activation flow keeps failing, an HDMI streaming device is the pragmatic answer. It also standardises the setup across a mixed-brand household, and it upgrades independently of the television.
- Fire TV Stick — sideload the player you were issued credentials for.
- Android TV box — same freedom, usually more storage and a better remote.
- Apple TV — App Store players only, but an excellent remote and reliable hardware.

Can I sideload an IPTV app on an LG TV?
No. webOS has no consumer sideloading route. Use a player from the LG Content Store or an external streaming device.
Why does the LG app ask for a MAC address?
Several webOS players bind their licence to the television’s network hardware address. Registering it is how the developer links your playlist to that specific TV.
