Pick the right login type first
The "name" field is a label for your own reference on the device. It is not part of the account and it does not have to match anything.
The single most common failed first attempt is putting a website address in the server field. The server address is the one support supplied, including its port if one was given — not the address of this site.

Errors that look worse than they are
Before reinstalling, write down your login details. Clearing app data or reinstalling erases them along with favourites, and re-entering them from memory rarely goes well.
